Henry II of England summons his sons and his Queen\, Eleanor of Aquitaine\, to his Christmas court at the Palace at Chinon\, France. However\, this is no ordinary family reunion. Henry wans his youngest son\, John to succeed him on the thrown. Out of spite\, Eleanor\, whom Henry imprisoned years ago for plotting against him\, wants one of their other sons\, Richard The Lionheart\, to be the next King of England. And what about poor Geoffrey? Provocatively\, Henry has also brought is young mistress\, Alais\, with him and wants to marry her off to John. \nWhilst Mummy and Daddy slog it out the perfidious princes form and break alliances and plot against each other for their own slice of glory . Into this heady mix walks Philip\, the young King of France\, and the skullduggery goes up another notch. As Eleanor says though ‘what family doesn’t have its ups and downs’! \nLoosely based on historical fact\, The Lion in Winter is a cross between King Lear and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf but oh so much more fun. It is a tale of Royal familial treachery with a family more dysfunctional than any to be found in Eastenders. When kingdoms are up for grabs the stakes are so much more deadly. The Lion definitely roars. \n \nCast \nHenry II King of England: Mike Savill\nEleanor of Aquitaine: Sue Williams\nRichard the Lionheart: Dan Goad\nGeoffrey: James Mercer\nJohn: Sam Napthine\nPhilip King of France: Joshua Lawson\nAlais: Dorota Zakrzynska \n\nAnyone can book for performances at Beckenham Theatre\, but only members can take part onstage or backstage.
